Old Boys and Girls: ALS Benefit at
Napper Tandy’s
Non-Fiction; A Review
From RJ: I was sick as a dog. I picked up something nasty visiting my brother in the hospital. So I asked DC to post for me.
He preached to me about my sorry assed attitude, heathen living, nasty language and my hate filled rhetoric. He said I needed to give up blogging about this deviate life style and living.
DC said to find something motivational to say and to stay away from lewd topics.
So, DC said he would blog about a benefit for ALS. I’ve already been to the hospital, my bed is the only logical place to be until I get well. The following is from DC:
To all who read this blog, pray for RJ because he desperately needs it (he could go to hell for these things he writes). I want to thank RJ and the blog people for this opportunity to cover some old school south shore rockers who are looking to help those with ALS.
Saturday, April 14, 2012, “The Fifth Annual Sound Success for ALS Benefit Show” was held at Napper Tandy’s in Smithtown, NY. The proceeds from the benefit went to the Columbia University ALS Gift Fund. The show starred the following acts; The Long Island Street Survivors, The Raves, Stevie Marshall and his Deputies with Bobby Bandiera, Kevin Ellman, and Charlie Roth. The show was presented by Mick Du Russel, who has family members afflicted with ALS.
Also starring “Abandon” featuring Lex Marchesi (lead vocalist, writer and guitarist for FOTOMAKER) with Barry Sallows, Gabe Terzano, Tony Marchesi and Billy Genduso, other groups, Suffolk Horns, The In Crowd Band with appearances by Sean Young, CJ Ramone, Richard Pryor Jr., Ms. Sr. America Gail King along with TV host Donna Drake and Peter Ferraro, also his brother Chris Ferraro of the NY Rangers.
The crowd was diverse but mostly over 40 and all the grey heads in the crowd made the benefit look like a benefit for the elderly. But ALS known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) is extremely serious, a disease with no known cure and almost always fatal.
The bands were very good, the crowd was very decent, extremely nice to each other and very into the old sounds, real rock and roll, most of which was done very well. Abandon was by far the best sounding group covering the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Marshall Tucker and other classic rock groups and music. It was a good night and a good time.
Napper Tandy’s is a really good venue for South Shore and Long Island Rock Bands with its deep but intimate concert area and stage and its dual bars. I didn’t stay long enough to find out how much was raised for ALS but it was a real good night seeing Wally and the Genduso brothers (both musicians and veteran rockers) at the event. I talked to many good folks who shared a good time and we were all in good company.
