Memorial Day and the Disenfranchised Veteran

Memorial Day and the Disenfranchised Veteran

Informational

Too many sorry assed politicians have given much lip service as to what they are doing for Veterans when the evident reality is that not only has the government forsaken and marginalized Veterans, but let corporations, institutions and service organizations (non-military) reduce to insignificance a Veterans worth and economically hobbled Veterans by ‘labels’ intended to yoke them to poverty.

I’m not going to weigh down this blog with stats and figures, because in the short run they mean little to anyone who hasn’t served and I’m preaching to the choir so to speak, when this is read by those who have served.  What you should know is that employers are using PTSD, Depression, and any other excuse not to hire Veterans.  This applies not only to Gulf War Veterans but any Veteran after the Korean War.

You want stories of Veterans suffering from this new and insidious form of state sanctioned discrimination go to http://www.stressproject.org/EFTStory1.html. The point I want to make to you is this: Support, Help and Advocate for Veterans.  Yes, there are all kinds of Veterans Organizations but Congress has closed their ears and their hearts to the Veterans who petition them in Washington DC.

But if you call, your woeful and pitifully intransigent Congressperson will listen to you.  Call your Congressperson, write letters and sign your name, do something other than sit on your ass saying ‘somebody should do something’ if you are not somebody then who the fuck are you?  I’ve written, petitioned and called my Congresswoman and my anger is only growing day by day.  I and all Veterans need you!

I have posted some events and suggestions of what you can do for the rest of the month of May.   Spare me the slogans and the flag waving, if you know a Veteran in distress talk to him or her.

If you know a Veteran who is not in distress but in a service organization (American Legion, VFW, DAV, etc,) talk to them about what you can do for Veterans who are going back to Afghanistan because they can’t find work in America.

Go Online and find events for Veterans and Memorial Day in your Area.  Start with Veterans Service Organizations and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Please do something!

RJ.
